Legal, Ethical, and Professional Considerations in the Anticipation of the Counseling Compact

Louisiana is one of several states that are coming together to form a counseling compact. This Counseling Compact is an interstate compact, or compact among states, allowing professional counselors licensed and residing in a compact member state to practice in other member states without the need for multiple licenses. In anticipation of this interstate agreement come partake in this presentation that invites Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors and Licenced Marriage and Family Therapists with information when considering the provision of clinical mental health counseling services across state lines with clients in a compact member state.

This course will credit as 1.5hrs in Ethics or Teletherapy.

Frequent Drinking vs Problem Drinking: Assessing, Diagnosing, and Treating Alcohol Use Disorders

How to recognize signs of AUD in the context of current cultures with a high prevalence of recreational and social alcohol use. How to manage AUD in patients with medical and psychological comorbidities. How to navigate patients toward success using the latest treatments while maintaining realistic expectations and preparations for relapse. Taught by Jake Rickoll, DNP, with extensive experience working in community-based clinics.

This course will credit as 1.5 hrs in Diagnosis.

 

Speaker Bios:

Dr. Roy A. Salgado, Jr., LMFT-S, LPC-S, NCC

Dr. Roy A. Salgado, Jr., LMFT-S, LPC-S, NCC received his B.S. in Psychology from Tulane University in 1995. He received his Master’s degree in Counseling in 2000 and Ph.D. in Counselor Education in 2003 from the University of New Orleans. Dr. Salgado has also worked as a teacher for the Archdiocese of New Orleans School System. In addition to his teaching experience, he has had diverse experiences as a counselor at an elementary school, a high school, a child and adolescent youth ranch, a community agency, and in private practice. Dr. Salgado has a position as an Associate Professor of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences at Our Load of Holy Cross College where he has been on faculty teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels since 2006.

Dr. Matt Morris, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Dr. Matt Morris, LPC-S, LMFT-S has a Ph.D. specializing in Family Therapy from Virginia Tech. He is licensed as both a Professional Counselor (LPC) and Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Louisiana and has more than a decade of experience in counseling families. Dr. Morris is a Board-approved supervisor to counselors and therapists and is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Dr. Morris is also a Professor of Counseling at the University of Holy Cross where he trains counselors, studies families, reads a lot, and generally has a great time doing what he loves.

Jacob Rickoll, DNP, APRN, AGNP-C

Most know me as “Jake” and I’m fortunate to have served the patients of CrescentCare since 2007 — first as Community Specialist, then Case Manager, then Registered Nurse, and now Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certified in Adult/Geriatric Primary Care. I manage both the primary care and urgent care needs of adult patients, including HIV PrEP and PEP, HCV, medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder, and anal cancer screening with high resolution anoscopy. I’m also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and would be honored to help you reach your wellness and fitness goals.
