“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” – Carl Rogers
Many of us see the new year as a turning point, an opportunity to tread the road towards the version of ourselves we wish to better. Such flipping of the pages can spark hope and motivation, and it simply feels like the right time to make changes in our lives. On the other hand, change may be seen through the lens of tension, pressure, and force, enabling us to reject or hide from those pieces of our being that we perceive as unacceptable or uncomfortable to view.
Through radical self-acceptance comes self-forgiveness, kindness, authenticity, heightened emotional intelligence, and the ability to witness all of our qualities without harsh judgment. Instead of focusing on what we need to stop doing, we begin to nurture our strengths and center in on our achievements. A seed sprouts when it is watered; we blossom when we care for ourselves. In other words, we give power to what we give attention to. This mindset is a breeding ground for transformation and requires daily dedication and inner encouragement. Self-acceptance is not only the first step in growth, but brings life to self-worth while simultaneously acknowledging that every moment is an optimal moment to begin anew.
I am thrilled to start my journey with Dr. Matt Morris & Associates. What a way to begin the new year!
